According to Your Word

“Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.” Luke 1:38 NKJV

“Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.” Luke 1:38 NKJV

The Christian faith is founded on the truth that God loved us so much that he sent a sinless sacrifice to be our substitute, that on the cross God took everything we were in Adam, placed it on Jesus and exchanged it for what was in Christ. “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” Ephesians 2:13

The power of the gospel as we know it all hinged on the decision of one Hebrew girl.

“Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” 29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” 34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”” Luke 1:26-37
The story begins with a divine encounter: an angel (messenger from God) comes and gives her a promise.

She listens to the promise. She doesn’t doubt that it can happen, she simply asked how it would happen.

Once she receives the knowledge she was looking for she made her decision, “let it be unto me according to your word.”

The miraculous birth of Jesus was based on Mary’s faith in a divine promise. Maybe you are thinking that if you had a divine encounter with an angel you would believe too. Here is what we need to see, her faith was not in the divine messenger, it was in the power of God’s divine word.

Listen to the words of the angel according to the Amplified Classic Version of the Bible: “For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment.” Luke 1:37

The word of the Lord to Mary was “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.” That word from God carried the power to fulfill itself.

Here is the take away, God sent the Holy Spirit to be your divine messenger and the word of God that he is declaring to you still has the same power to fulfill itself. Only believe.
